  • Work closely with editors on developing story ideas and preparing articles for publication
  • Interview sources and conduct research for original reporting assignments; aggregate news stories and articles from Military Times archives for daily pieces on military personnel, geopolitics and defense strategy issues

  • Manage Twitter and Facebook accounts; includes posting original content and arranging live streams, all informed by analytics and audience development goals

  • Worked in the consumer investigative unit and took on complex consumer cases which required researching consumer law and company policy and mediating between consumers and companies; closed all cases with a satisfactory resolution and assisted producers in turning several cases into television stories
  • Produced live videos of the franchise consumer reporter covering stories for his Facebook page
  • Recruited companies to participate in a weekly giveaway segment called “Finney’s Friday Free Stuff” (average 150,000 viewers)

Congressman Darrell Issa, Capitol Hill, Washington, DC
Press Intern, January 2017 – April 2017

  • Drafted biweekly email newsletters reaching thousands of constituents, as well as media advisories and press releases published on the congressman’s website and posts for his social media accounts
  • Conducted legislative research on congress.gov for use writing communications materials such as constituent mailers as well as memos for staffers working on other legislative projects
  • Answered 30-80 constituent phone calls per day and logged all comments and complaints in a database for use in future targeted outreach; received positive feedback from constituents for professionalism
